What We Learned Making Our First Vertical Comedy

BANG! You have to get people's attention in the first three seconds. Verticals, especially vertical comedy needs to grab people. This provides the bedrock of all episodes and has a gigantic impact on view rates and data.
Audience will discover the more you post. Cross platform posting helps people discover the show and every episode, every collaboration brings in a new audiences - especially comedy.
Story and character are still king. No matter what the show or reel is about it has to feel honest. It has to feel authentic. No repeats of a trend or people will instantly turn away. We learned that the most success we had was when we were pulling from our own life experiences and using that to create.
No budget, no problem. People are always willing to help. We learned quickly never to underestimate the kindness of small business owners or crew that just want to make something.

Eight pages a day is doable but at a cost. We shot Glens Boutique over the course of five days, resulting in two back to back eight page days. That schedule isn't for the weak… or the sensible but what it yields is raw and unfiltered.
Data is your friend. Don't be afraid to put those numbers into a spreadsheet and see where people are liking or turning off the reel.
